Thermotraffic is renowned for its global expertise in temperature-controlled logistics. Freight Forwarding is one of the many services we offer to a high profile and growing customer base. In doing so we act as the customer’s logistics department, an intermediary who brings together all the parties involved to ensure that the goods are moved from end-to-end.

Our Import and Export function at Stanford-le-Hope in Essex is at the heart of this operation, ensuring that all customs activities and procedures are carried out in accordance with customer agreements and the agreed policy, at the lowest cost and with the best possible results. Right now, we’re busier than ever as we handle an ever-increasing volume of containers unloaded from ships that have sailed from around the world. A large and international structure

Thermotraffic is a 100% subsidiary of the Nichirei Corporation. Our objective is to offer a seamless, end-to-end multi-temperature warehousing and logistics chain. In doing so we provide services to importers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and distributors. You will therefore be working within a substantial and proven organization that offers all the resources necessary to do your job to the best of your ability.

Comprehensive Customs excellence and continuous improvement

Your core task in this role as Customs Freight Forwarder is to perform the independent, high-quality and timely preparation and execution from start to finish of all shipment administration relating to customs and other formalities. You ensure that shipments comply with all applicable procedures, laws and regulations, and constantly seek to improve our levels of efficiency and service provision.

In order to achieve this you:

  • Independently accept, oversee and handle shipments according to arrangements agreed with customers;
  • Independently check tariff headings for customs duties, agricultural levies, VAT and similar;
  • Prevent, observe and deal with irregularities and problems concerning processes, procedures, work instructions and systems.
  • Update stakeholders concerning import and export restrictions, or unforeseen charges;

At all times you maintain and develop contacts with other departments, (potential) customers, suppliers, government agencies and other stakeholders for the purpose of work progress. You also work with the Manager to propose and implement improvements regarding efficiency, quality, customer satisfaction, profitability and broadening of the service range.

To apply for this Customs Declarant position you should be an organized professional with an eye for detail and knowledge of all current and relevant laws and regulations. Beyond that, you are innately responsive to the needs of customers and co-workers, and you actively contribute to the formulation and achievement of common goals. You are always alert to new opportunities and situations and you constantly seek to improve our ways of working.

The more formal requirements for the role are:

  • GCSE grade B or higher;
  • At least 3 years of demonstrable professional experience in a comparable role;
  • Vocational training as a declarant (UK Customs Academy level 3);
  • Results focused and quick to take corrective actions;
  • Computer literate with a broad knowledge and experience of modern software applications, including MS Office;
