Darren has worked in logistics and warehousing since leaving school. But even he is still learning, in a multi-facing role that brings him into contact with all our UK sites as well as a wide range of customers.
I joined the company in December 2022 after a near 30-year career in this sector during which I worked in various roles for a number of companies. Thermotraffic appealed to me because they are a forward-thinking, innovative and progressive company that is always looking to offer new solutions and options for their customers.
The fact that my role combines account management with sales was also attractive. As an account manager I aim to keep customers happy by helping to solve operational problems for them as well as discussing stock forecasts, rate reviews and future developments. But my main priority is sales and that function has evolved. Thermotraffic is a truly end-to-end logistics company and I can offer transportation, customs clearance and other services to existing cold storage customers. I enjoy being able to offer so many possibilities and customers have reacted very positively.
Always learning
No two days are the same. I enjoy the mix of working from home and visiting current and potential customers and talking to them about their challenges. I am also in regular contact with the site managers at our UK sites: Bury St Edmunds, Brierley Hill, Wrexham, Braintree, Newark and Lympne. I have already visited our offices in Rotterdam several times for team meetings, and I report to the Head of Sales in the Netherlands.
I have enjoyed learning about the frozen/chilled food industry as this part of the logistics sector is new to me. Still lots to learn!
Challenges and enthusiasm
As a company we are always looking to go the extra mile, and we have a huge wealth of experience to make it happen. This enables us to overcome challenges, such as those thrown up by Brexit. The necessary certification and documentation is always changing, but we have the people with the knowledge to help our customers.
I would recommend Thermotraffic as a very good company to work for with a great management team in place. When I applied for this role I was impressed with the enthusiasm of the staff and the desire to take the business forward. And it’s an exciting time to join. We are taking big steps and I look forward to playing a part in that.
