Adam Joslin
Head of UK Operations, UK

Cold Storage Warehousing

Adam is in charge of our UK operations. And he is keen to stress that Thermotraffic can only improve and move forward with people and the teams around us.

I have always worked in the logistics sector, starting on the shop floor in the warehouse and then progressing into administrative roles before undertaking a transport planning apprenticeship. This eventually led to my becoming Transport Manager at a large logistics company before joining Thermotraffic in March 2022. I joined as Logistics Manager overseeing the transport side of the business and was then offered the role of Head of UK Operations.

I am responsible for the operational activities of the business, including workforce productivity. My daily duties include working with other senior staff on operational strategy planning, and ensuring all staff are aware of the operational processes, procedures and best practices to improve the overall efficiency of the business and its functions.

Alignment for improvement

Inevitably there’s an element of day-to-day problem solving to my job. But I also spend a lot of time looking at the bigger picture – where are we and where do we want to go? Central to this is the closer alignment of the sites via the sharing of best practices and a real focus on the improvement of processes and performance. If something is working well at one site we need to adopt it at the other sites and, ultimately, make the job easier for our staff. Thermotraffic is a team, so we help each other out.

We can only achieve our objectives if everyone has input. Everyone sees things differently and we encourage suggestions for improvements. Above all, we promote a ‘can-do’ attitude in which everyone learns and moves forward together.

Development

One of the main reasons I joined Thermotraffic was to further develop my career within the logistics sector. And I wanted to work for a business that had further opportunities for growth. Thermotraffic is very much a business that encourages growth internally. We are on a journey and we want everyone to share that journey as they develop themselves and their careers. We encourage our managers to spend time with their staff, to find out what they enjoy about their work and what challenges they face daily. It’s the only way to improve and resolve any issues.

Great long-term prospects

It’s an exciting time to be in the cold chain logistics industry. We have to adapt in the face of environmental challenges. And, of course, the cold chain sector will always be here. Everything we eat is stored and transported at some point in the chain. In fact, 85% of all the food we eat in the UK – if you include the ingredients – is imported.

As such, it’s a career for the long haul, and I’m pleased to say that most of our employees have been with us for many years. Some of them have been with us for 15 or 20 years. I think that shows that we’re all about the people.

Whatever your background, if you have the right attitude we’re interested in hearing from you. At Thermotraffic you’re a valued employee.
