As a leading multi-temperature warehousing and logistics business, Norish is required to operate and maintain advanced Cold Store infrastructure to the highest levels of efficiency and Health & Safety. Drive in-house safety and excellence
Your core task in the role of Refrigeration Engineer is to monitor and maintain the Cold Store plant, its refrigeration plant, FGAS and Ammonia refrigeration within the industrial and commercial sector. This requires the expertise to improve preventative maintenance on all company refrigeration, implementing procedures that allow on-site engineers to easily perform vital checks that can be monitored for any signs of refrigeration breakdown. The performance of all maintenance and improvements in-house will enable us to respond more quickly to problems and provide a better service to our customers. Your daily tasks include:
- Maintaining optimum conditions of the refrigeration plant, including plant room, condensers and evaporators and fans;
- Carrying out planned maintenance programmes;
- Dealing with plant/equipment breakdowns which are often urgent requirements to maintain the store temperatures;
- Working and developing our own in-house staff;
- Working with, and supervising, contractors.
At all times you deliver the excellent standards of housekeeping required by Norish and their customers. Needless to say, you manage all work in accordance with the Health & Safety Policy, legal requirements, and safe systems of work. You also keep comprehensive up-to-date records of all refrigeration engineering and related activity.
This role covers all Norish sites and you will be involved in new project developments, especially new equipment and technologies. When necessary you perform out of hours call outs to the refrigeration plant and take action to restore normal operational conditions. You report to the Chief Engineer and work collaboratively with all colleagues at the sites.

This is a highly responsible position that calls for experience in refrigeration systems engineering, a good safety record, and the ability to work with minimum supervision. Preferably, you have an NVQ Certificate in Installing and Commissioning Refrigeration Systems.
Beyond this, you bring real attention to detail along with numeracy and IT literacy. You are also proactive and enthusiastic with the strong interpersonal skills necessary to guide other engineering staff. And, of course, you have a sound knowledge of health and safety and safe working systems and their implications in the workplace. The formal requirements for the role are:
- General refrigeration engineering knowledge;
- Refrigeration engineer education and knowledge in areas such as Fundamentals of Electricity, Commercial Comfort Systems, Residential Comfort Systems, Fundamentals of Refrigeration, Refrigeration Systems and Practices, Advanced Troubleshooting, Mechanical Engineering;
- Experienced in building/facility maintenance;
- Able to work in a cold store environment;
- Previous experience in large-scale refrigeration plants/business/logistics is an advantage.
